The Program Designers’ Lab in Moldova (PDL Moldova) provides technical support for six multidisciplinary project teams to enable them to maintain their operations, build strategic partnerships, and secure funding in the long term. The program is implemented in collaboration with GIZ Moldova within the framework of the SDG Innovation Fund, commissioned by the German Government with the aim of fostering sustainable development in the Republic of Moldova. 

Meet the participating teams

The six teams were selected from over 100 project proposals and have a thematic focus on social, and/or environmental affairs. The teams started working on their projects in August 2021 and have an implementation period of up to 12 months and total budgets between 50,000 to 70,000 Euros each. 

Project 1: Towards Employability

Project name: Share Second Chance project 

Implementing organization: Regional Center for Community Policies

Project objective: The SHARE Second Chance program is designed to reduce the rate of recidivism by empowering ex-prisoners to find transitional jobs following their release that enables them to find a permanent source of income through developing their employability and facilitating their reintegration into the job market. 

The project aims to support 100 men, women, and young adults leaving prison and with substance addiction history, their families, and communities.

Location: Chișinău with country-wide beneficiaries

 

Project 2: Towards Sustainable Mobility

Project name: Moldova on Bikes

Implementing Organization: EcoVisio

Project description: The project aims to get more people to take climate action and create positive economic, social & environmental links between urban, peri-urban and rural areas through adapting the infrastructure and organizing leisure activities to encourage people to use bikes both for leisure and for day-to-day transport.

The project aims to support: 

  • Moldovian citizens that use bikes or are open to trying them, with women as a special focus. 
  • Car and bus drivers to learn more about the safe integration of bikes into their traffic.

Location: Chișinău and surroundings 

Project 3: Towards Sustainable Water Supply

Project name: SMART Planning in the Water Sector 

Implementing Organization: Regional Development Agency North 

Project description: The project aims at creating the necessary planning framework to attract investments in Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) and use resources efficiently to provide equitable and sustainable safe water and sanitation interventions with the goal of improving the socio-economic well-being of communities. 

The project aims to support: 15 educational and healthcare institutions (Around 3000 people) which directly contribute to the population of Briceni, Singerei and Glodeni rayons (Around 200 thousand). The project places a special focus on providing support for women, girls, students and underserved groups.

Project 4: Towards Protecting Children at Risk

Project name: Hope for Children from Vulnerable Families 

Implementing Organization: Rainbow of Hope” Children Center 

Project description: The project aims to prevent the institutionalization for children at risk through providing the families with necessary access to services and information such as communications training, speech therapy, counseling, and legal services.

The project aims to support: 40 parents and 50 children from a total of 25 families selected in Vadul lui Voda based on their commitment to go through the rehabilitation program.

Project 5: Towards Accessible Social Services

Project name: More accessible social services for people with autism 

Implementing Organization: SOS Autism 

Project description: The project aims to increase the quality and availability of social services provided to children and adults with autism and other disabilities, including their families and caretakers through developing a mechanism for contracting, funding and accrediting social services in the sector. 

The project aims to support: Children and young people with autism. 

SDG Connection: 3, 8, 10 and 1. 

Location: Chișinău and country-wide across Moldova

Project 6: Towards Greener, Energy-Efficient Schools

Project name: Accelerate: Greener, more energy-efficient school environments 

Implementing Organization: Alliance for Energy Efficiency and Renewables

Project description: The project aims to develop a sustainable planning model to provide tools and know-how transfer with the goal of accelerating the uptake of practices that promote greener, energy-efficient, and more sustainable school environments.

The project aims to support: School staff, students (Around 5000), and parents across 10 schools. 

Location: Country-wide across Moldova 

Program Designers’ Lab Moldova (PDL Moldova) supports the sustainable empowerment of six cross-sectoral teams working towards the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Republic of Moldova. The PDL Moldova is implemented by enpact e.V. within the framework of the SDG Innovation Fund that the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH implements on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
