Supporting Women-Focused Business Support Organizations in Ukraine

The Women Entrepreneurs Readiness and Empowerment in Ukraine project promotes inclusive economic development by directly supporting women-led SMEs and women-focused Business Support Organizations (WBSOs), who play a pivotal role in driving resilience, regional cooperation, and EU single market readiness in Ukraine’s private sector.

The project will focus on supporting businesses in the five export priority sectors: food processing, textiles and apparel, wood and furniture, ICT, and electrical equipment.

Through a tailored hybrid learning program, online and offline networking sessions and exchange trips to EU business ecosystems, the project will strengthen structural collaboration between WBSOs and SMEs, raise awareness on how EU policies affect Ukrainian businesses, facilitate forming interregional peer networks, actively connect Ukrainian economic actors to their counterparts in the EU and prepare participants for EU integration challenges and opportunities.

Project activities

Phase 1: Impulse

Activity: Five modules on EU readiness and gender-responsive business support
Duration: 10 weeks (2 weeks per module)
Workload: Up to 5 hours of online sessions per module

Each module includes an expert-led impulse session, a guided implementation activity within your organization, and the opportunity for follow-up consultation on your individual implementation questions.

The modules cover key topics such as gender dimensions of EU accession, EU single market readiness, gender-oriented service design, SME policy and EU funding instruments, leadership and resilience in times of crisis, and advocacy for women-led businesses.

Phase 2: Empowerment

Activity: Service improvement and roadmap development
Duration: 6 weeks (2 weeks per sprint)
Workload: Up to 4 hours of online or hybrid sessions per sprint

WBSOs participate in a structured service-improvement process designed to strengthen one existing service relevant to women-led SMEs and EU market readiness.

Through facilitated workshops and guided service sprints, organizations develop a service-improvement roadmap that integrates gender-responsive design, EU-aligned practices, and feedback from peers and SMEs. The process focuses on practical adaptation and learning, preparing services for testing and further development beyond the project.

Phase 3: Testing

Activity: Testing and peer review of improved services
Duration: 6 weeks (2 weeks per feedback cycle)
Workload: Up to 2 hours of online feedback per cycle

As part of the project, WBSOs have the opportunity to test elements of their improved services with selected women-led SMEs and receive structured feedback.

Peer review sessions with Ukrainian and EU-based experts and organizations support reflection, learning, and refinement of service approaches. Insights from the testing phase help strengthen future service delivery and organizational readiness.

Phase 4: Readiness

Activity: Curated delegation trip to EU business ecosystems
Duration: One week delegation, 2 Days bootcamp
Workload: Up to 7 days of in-person sessions (+ 2 Days for travel)

Selected WBSO representatives join a curated delegation trip to one or more EU business ecosystems. The program includes site visits, knowledge-sharing sessions, and structured peer exchange with EU-based business support organizations, chambers, and networks.

The delegation focuses on learning from EU practices, exchanging experiences, and initiating professional connections that may serve as a basis for future cooperation, joint projects, or continued exchange beyond the project. Prior to the delegation trip, representatives will take part in a preparatory in-person bootcamp to clarify their goals, refine their presentations and ensure they are ready to engage effectively and make the most out of the week.
