Meet MADE's Idea Competition Winners

8 teams of young entrepreneurs started their journey of 3 months of pre-incubation, the second phase of MADE Program, in March 2023. Get to know them:

Oracle Smart Grid Water Flow Meter (OWM), led by Nour EL-Din Magdy Mohamed

The Oracle Smart Grid Water Flow Meter (OWM) is a smart meter device for monitoring water consumption and a sustainability solution that pays for itself through water savings. It can detect and stop leaks at the source using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). It alerts you when water is leaking and automatically shuts it off or by a press of a button through a mobile application that enables wireless control and intelligent real-time monitoring. This innovation also provides user consumption analytics by collecting data, and then it can predict future consumption using AI and ML. Finally, the device provides water components analysis for purity detection and approval.

Smart Sip, led by Maha Ahmed

Smart Sip offers an innovative smart water bottle that helps people stay hydrated, track their water intake, and achieve their hydration goals. It combines technology and sustainable materials to personalize the water intake; it notifies its user when to drink and when to refill the bottle, measures daily progress, considers the user’s activities & lifestyles, and much more.

Sputnik, led by Karem Tawfik

Sputnik solves the problem of oil pollution in water. Addressing the issue of oil spills, the team creates a robot equipped with a sponge that absorbs oil, effectively collecting the slicks for eventual recycling. The process works as follows: first, the oil-contaminated water enters the robot, sponging up the oil, then releasing the clean water back into the water bodies, and the robot presses on the sponge, spilling out the collected oil into a container. The container is equipped with an ultrasonic alarm that alerts when it is full, and the process is repeated as needed. Highly affordable, this robot offers a faster and more effective solution for promoting sustainable practices and waste minimization, which is ideal for oil companies and petroleum refining stations.

Safe2Go, led by Hammad Mohammed

Safe2Go is a smart washing machine for the jeans industry finishing process saving water, energy, and time. By reducing water used per single washing process from 600 to 120 liters, the team introduces an automated solution with no human interference, protecting workers from chemical hazards.

Sapsoil, led by Sondos Tarek

Sapsoil introduces innovative microgels that help reduce irrigation rates. The product is extracted from organic irregularities that preserve water inside; a gram saves 300 gm of water. It is ideal for desert soil and clay disturbance; it helps reduce water loss. It absorbs the water and then extracts it in case of drought so that the soil stays moisturized. This technique enables soil fortification by slowing the fertilization process, allowing the roots to absorb mineral or organic compounds efficiently.

Mega Watt, led by Abdelrahman Arafa

Mega Watt is a power generation unit based on wave energy, generally depending on the oscillating water column concept and wells turbine technology, through which oscillating air is produced and converted to mechanical energy by the rotation of the wells turbines.

Farawlatech, led by Ahmed Ramadan

Farawlatech is a soilless cultivation system for strawberry production with high quality and quantity. With high technologies, this innovation saves water and shores up fertilizers and pesticides effect.

PPS, led by Mahmoud Abdo

PPS team focuses on regulating water consumption by monitoring the plant’s status and using data analysis to improve irrigation scheduling. They produce customized controllers on irrigation systems based on plant needs, saving water and benefiting farmers.

In June 2023, a pitch event marked the end of the 3-month pre-incubation, where the 8 teams presented their progress with their ideas for the chance to be selected for the final stage of the program, the 6-month incubation. Based on the scoring conducted by a jury of business and manufacturing experts, Teams Farwla Tech, PPS, and Sputnik were those who made it to this phase. Each team now accesses tailored business and technical training, dedicated mentoring, and a monthly support package valued at 550 EUR per team member to build the minimum viable product (MVP).
